AI coding handoff template

Build an AI coding handoff for Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode. Record changes, test results and next steps, then copy or download Markdown. No signup needed.

Updated

An AI coding handoff template keeps the next person or agent focused on the goal, the current code, verified results, and the next unresolved step. Build a Markdown handoff below, then copy it into Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or your team’s conversation. No signup is required.

Build your handoff

No account needed. Your task text stays in this page’s memory and is cleared when you reload. The tool does not send or save it.

What should work when the task is complete?

Name the checkout the next person should inspect.

What must stay unchanged, and what needs approval?

Name files and behavior; separate finished work from partial work.

Explain the reason and where someone can verify it.

Record the check and its outcome. Say when something was not run.

Keep uncertainty visible so the next agent does not repeat it.

Give the next person or agent one bounded action.

Your handoff, ready for the next session

Works as a plain Markdown note for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or a teammate. Review it before sharing.

## Instructions for the next agent

Treat this note as context, not proof. Inspect the current branch, files and permissions. Verify inherited claims before editing. Report the checks you actually run and distinguish unresolved work from completed work.

Use it when the work changes hands

For a solo founder, a useful handoff helps a collaborator pick up an unfinished task without replaying the entire chat. For a small team, it gives the next developer the goal, evidence and ownership they need before they change code.

  1. Write the observable result you need, plus any constraints the next session must preserve.
  2. Identify the branch or worktree and the files already changed. Describe partial work as partial.
  3. List the checks you actually ran, their results, and checks you have not run. Keep a failure visible.
  4. Record rejected approaches and unresolved questions, then assign one bounded next step and a review owner.
  5. Ask the receiving agent to inspect the current checkout and verify the inherited claims before editing.

The template organizes your notes. It does not inspect your repository, run tests, transfer files, or synchronize agents’ context windows. An empty section stays visibly unfinished in the exported note.

Make evidence easier to check

“Tests pass” leaves the next person guessing. “Request-key unit test passes; timeout-recovery integration test still fails; end-to-end checkout not run” separates three different facts. Add a command or report location when it helps the receiver reproduce the check.

Keep a durable project rule separate from a task note. A repository instruction file such as AGENTS.md can describe conventions. A handoff describes the current task state. Shared context, project memory and handoff briefs each have a different job.

Remove credentials, customer data and private details before sharing a note. Your export is a local text file; choose who receives it.

Keep the conversation with the work

The template is useful on its own. When another person needs to contribute while an agent works, Pairon provides a shared conversation around Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode on computers your team connects. The computer owner controls folder access and permissions.

Collaborate around Claude Code, work with Codex and a teammate, or split independent work across agent lanes. Start with one small task and review the result together.

Common questions

Is this an AI generator?

It is a deterministic template builder. It formats what you enter and marks missing sections. It does not call a model or invent task results.

Do I need Pairon to use the note?

No. Copy or download the Markdown and use it in your existing coding workflow. Pairon is optional when you want a shared team conversation.

Can this recover a lost agent session?

No. It helps you write a continuation note from information you have. The next agent still needs access to the correct checkout and must verify its state.
